Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Multiple epidemiological studies have revealed an association between occupational physical strain and the risk of developing hip osteoarthritis.

CONCLUSION:

The studies are moderately to highly heterogeneous. An association exists between years of lifting heavy loads or other kinds of physical strain on the job and the risk of developing osteoarthritis of the hip. The greater the exposure, the greater the risk. The evidence base for risk assessment in women is currently inadequate.

 

 

 

Resumen

 

ANTECEDENTES:

Múltiples estudios epidemiológicos han revelado una asociación entre la tensión física ocupacional y el riesgo de desarrollar osteoartritis de cadera.

CONCLUSIÓN:

Los estudios son moderadamente a altamente heterogéneos. Existe una asociación entre años de levantar cargas pesadas u otros tipos de esfuerzo físico en el trabajo y el riesgo de desarrollar osteoartritis de la cadera. Cuanto mayor es la exposición, mayor es el riesgo. La base de pruebas para la evaluación de riesgos en mujeres es actualmente inadecuada.
